Hello Neighbours,

As many of you said you wanted improvements of outside spaces, especially for children, Friendly Neighbours applied with Growing Green Carolina for funding to improve this …and

It is official!

We have won the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) with the project Bounding Dove! The £30,000 raised will improve the provision, replacement, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure at Carolina House communal concrete terrace, garage spaces and Dove Street Open Space.

Improvements will start in April 2022 to make the place more welcoming for residents to meet, play and relax together.

Residents’ Meeting December 2021: Notes

Many thanks for ringing, coming along or zooming with us to share your ideas.

We heard your thoughts about filming in the area, and how to spend funds from the film companies

Good to meet people who had been active in community/resident groups in the past, who shared their experience, advice and on-going actions to look after people and places in Dove Street. Everyday actions like gardening, chatting to neighbours and other acts of friendliness make this a great place to live. Thank you!

Your wishes:-

  • opportunities for older people to meet together in the fresh air
  • a sectioned-off area near Armada, to mirror the one at the Carolina playground and hill, especially for such residents to meet and socialise, with benches etc
  • social activities for adults who may be living alone and been isolating
  • to make sure that in accepting funds from filming doesn't mean that filming is welcomed. We should not be obliged to accept it in future.
  • an event to include international food and local musicians- there are so many residents with skills, talents and generous spirits who want to contribute
  • 'If the children are alright , then everyone is alright'
  • the 'Japanese garden' is an example of a place improved. Could we all use it more?

Your worries:-

  • Noises at night, with eating, singing and drinking on the green area near Nine Tree Hill
  • dogs running around on the same area
  • parking inconvenience due to filming
  • doorbells being rung by unknown people in the early hours

We will take into account sound from the terraces ricocheting to the upper floors in the CIL funded works.

Next steps:-

arrange for residents to meet with the film office to discuss how they feel about their homes being used as a film set, and the stigma it brings to themselves and their children

‘It is really nice when people say hello when they pass in the corridors etc. makes us feel more at home when it is friendly’
